The New Fast: Agile-Splendor IPS
Unlike in traditional IPS displays, these IPS panels utilize a fast liquid crystal technology to reduce native response times from 14ms to 5-7ms or 1-2ms with Overdrive enabled – up to a max of 0.1ms1 – all while maintaining a DCI-P3 color gamut of 90% or better. The response times achieved with these panels are far greater than those of other panel types – with the result being extremely fluid graphics and vivid color recreation.
How Response Time Works
Response time is how quickly a display’s LCD pixels change from fully active (white) to fully inactive (black), then back to fully active again. This is measured in milliseconds, so a five-millisecond (5ms) response time means that a monitor can go from white to black to white in 1/200th of a second. Agile-Splendor IPS panels are able to achieve much higher rates.
How Color Gamut Works
The term color gamut refers to the range of color a device can reproduce, the larger or wider the gamut the more rich saturated color available. As a color gamut becomes smaller, it is generally these rich saturated colors that are the first to suffer, which is referred to as clipping. Agile-Splendor IPS panels remain color rich despite this technical challenge.
