Unlocking Potential: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders Through Sport

已複製

For the past several years, Acer America has been a proud sponsor of the Girls Golf Leadership Academy, a unique two-day experience that combines the power and community of sport with group exercises, expert-led discussions, and interaction with female executives and mentors that help girls discover their own strengths and leadership style.

This event is designed to keep teenage girls engaged in sport while also providing a framework to develop their confidence, communication, and key leadership skills. Using the game of golf as a platform and learning tool, participants discover how to:

•    Become better decision makers
•    Overcome setbacks
•    Take calculated risks
•    Develop skills to accomplish specific goals
•    Find their own voice & play their own game

The skills and experiences gained through the Girls Golf Leadership Academy provide a strong foundation for future success. Whether pursuing collegiate golf opportunities or entering the professional world, participants are better prepared to tackle challenges and seize opportunities. The leadership skills, confidence, and networks built during this event often unlock new possibilities and potential.

Participants in each Leadership Academy are hand-selected through an application process, with just 40 girls from across the United States selected for Acer’s event.

Throughout the years Acer has sponsored these events, more than 280 girls have participated representing 28 states across the country.

These young athletes are between the ages of 13-18, many starting either high school or college, a critical point in time when many teenage girls stop playing sports. The supportive environment of the Leadership Academy encourages girls to push their boundaries and celebrate their successes, fostering a positive self-image that extends beyond the golf course. Acer America believes in the power and community of sport to create positive change and knows that when teenage girls participate in sport it promotes physical and mental health, boosts confidence and self-esteem, builds social connections, and teaches valuable life skills like goal setting, discipline and overcoming setbacks — all skills of great leaders.

A key component of this two-day event is the Women’s Executive Panel, which brings senior executives from various industries together to share their own journeys with education, career goals, and personal pursuits. Women that have joined the Acer Leadership panel include executives from Microsoft, Nike, Ebay, Accenture, Brighton Jones, University of Oregon, Tone, and more. These panelists spend hours with participants answering questions, guiding ideas, and bestowing advice, often creating such an impact that participants seek these executives out for follow-up after the event's conclusion.

Creating this type of an impact is precisely why Acer values its participation in mentorship and leadership events like this. Acer not only delivers technology to help people unlock their passions and potential, but also creates opportunities to empower the next generation.

The LPGA leadership academies are life changing. It’s gratifying to see how these girls come in on day one and how they come out at the end of the academy with tools that not only will help them with their golf game but will also help them for their life.

Attending the LPGA Academy made me realize that I am not alone in my struggles as a teenage girl. I learned how to embrace who I am and accept it. Not only that, I also met so many girls from different parts of the country, which was extremely special to me. The LPGA Academy really knows how to make a girl feel good about herself. I hope every girl gets the chance!
