CA Electronic Waste Recycling Fee

California Electronic Waste Recycling Fee
The state of California has passed legislation imposing an electronic waste recycling fee for a sale made by a retailer to a consumer in California for certain electronic items. This legislation was SB 20 Senate Bill CHAPTERED and SB 50.
 
To comply with this new regulation, Acer will charge the applicable California Electronic Waste Recycling fee on all covered items. These covered items include laptop computers, profile computers, tablet PCs, Media Center PC monitors, Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors beginning January 1, 2005, that are shipped to customers within the State of California. Starting July 1, 2005: LCD TVs and Plasma TVs are covered. As of January 1, 2005, this does not include camcorders, digital cameras and LCD projectors. This excludes sales to other retailers.
 
Acer will report and remit all fees collected on all covered electronic devices to the state of California as prescribed in SB 20 Senate Bill starting January 1, 2005.
From SB 20 Senate Bill:
Article 3. Covered Electronic Waste Recycling Fee
 
42464. (a) On and after January 1, 2005 a covered electronic waste recycling fee is hereby imposed upon the first sale in the state of a covered electronic device to a consumer by a retailer. (b) A retailer that sells a covered electronic device to a consumer shall collect the fee imposed under subdivision (a) for each covered electronic device sold by the retailer in the following amounts:
  1. Four dollars ($4) for each covered electronic device with a screen size of greater than 4 inches measured diagonally but less than 15 inches measured diagonally.
  2. Five dollars ($5) for each covered electronic device with a screen size greater than or equal to 15 inches but less than 35 inches measured diagonally.
  3. Six dollars ($6) for each covered electronic device with a screen size greater than or equal to 35 inches measured diagonally.
Additionally, this legislation requires the retailer to make available information to consumers in the state of California regarding the recycling of electronic equipment and display monitors and also locations within the state of California to recycle these items.

El estado de California ha aprobado una ley en la que se impone una cuota por el reciclaje de desechos electrónicos para aquellas ventas hechas por una tienda detallista a un consumidor en el estado de California para determinados artículos electrónicos. This legislation was SB20 Senate Bill CHAPTERED and SB50.
 
Para cumplir con esta nueva regulación, Acer aplicará dicha cuota de reciclaje de residuos electrónicos en todos los artículos cubiertos por esta ley. Los artículos cubiertos incluyen computadoras portátiles, profile computer, tablet PCs, Media Center PC monitores, monitores de tubo de rayos catódicos (CRT) y monitores de cristal líquido (LCD), a partir del 1 de Enero de 200 5 , que sean enviados a los clientes dentro del Estado de California.   2. Cinco dólares ($5) para cada dispositivo electrónico cubierto con un tamaño de pantalla superior o igual a 15 pulgadas, pero menor a 35 pulgadas medida en forma diagonal.
  3. Seis dólares ($6) para cada dispositivo electrónico cubierto con un tamaño de pantalla superior o igual a 35 pulgadas medida en forma diagonal.
Además, esta regulación exige al minorista a hacer disponible información a los consumidores en el estado de California en relación al reciclaje de equipos electrónicos y monitores de visualización y también lugares dentro del estado de California para reciclar estos articulos.
